Tobin (D), with 125,786 votes, defeats James Michael Curley (D), with 116,430, Joseph Lee Jr. (D), with 19,186, and others to become the first mayor to serve successive terms since legislation was passed in 1938 to once more allow this. Turnout is 270,681 or 73%.
